About Takecare Clinic Railay
Takecare Clinic Railay is a nurse-led medical clinic on the Railay peninsula in Krabi. We are open
8am–10pm daily and reachable 24 hours by phone, WhatsApp and Line. There is no appointment system, no
referral requirement and no need to be a Thai resident — you walk in, you are seen.
The problem a clinic here solves
Railay is cut off by limestone on three sides and open sea on the fourth. No roads reach it, no
cars run on it, and there is no hospital anywhere on the peninsula. Every arrival and departure is by
longtail boat. For a holiday that is the entire appeal; for a sprained ankle at four in the afternoon
it is a genuine obstacle.
Without a clinic here, the honest cost of a small medical problem is most of a day: walk to the
beach, wait for a boat, cross to Ao Nang, find transport, be seen, and do the whole thing again in
reverse. Predictably, people decide it can wait. Then the cut that needed cleaning on Monday is
infected by Thursday, and the fever that wanted a dengue test on day two gets one on day five.
What we are really for is removing that calculation. Most of what walks through the door takes ten
or fifteen minutes and costs very little, and it gets dealt with the day it happens instead of the day
it becomes serious.
Nurses on site, doctors in the network
Experienced English-speaking nurses on site, with doctors shared with our Ao Nang clinic who attend when one is needed. We would rather be plain about this than let you arrive expecting something
different: for an ordinary consultation here, you are seen by a nurse.
That is not a limitation dressed up as a feature. Nurses handle the overwhelming majority of what a
place like Railay produces — wounds, stings, fevers, stomach upsets, dressings, injections, blood
draws — and they handle it faster than a doctor-gated system would. When your case genuinely needs a
doctor, one is brought in rather than approximated.
How the Takecare network actually works
We work together with Doctor Ao Nang Takecare Medical Clinic in Ao Nang. That partnership is operational rather
than decorative: the two clinics share doctors, patient records and treatment plans.
In practice it means three things. A doctor can review your case remotely within minutes and
prescribe accordingly. A doctor can cross to Railay in person when being physically present is what
the situation needs. And if you continue your trip on the mainland, the clinic you walk into already
has your notes — no repeating the story, no repeating the tests.
Who we mostly see
Climbers, first and foremost. Railay is one of the best-known limestone sport-climbing
destinations in the world, and the injuries follow the sport: finger pulleys, ground falls, rope
burns, ankles, and hands shredded on sharp rock.
After that: divers and snorkellers, travellers working through the usual tropical repertoire of
stomach bugs and fevers, sunburn that went further than expected, and the people who work the resorts
and bars here through the season. Most of our patients have no medical records with them, do not speak
Thai, and want to understand what is wrong and what it costs before agreeing to anything. That is the
normal case here, not the awkward one.
What we can do on the peninsula
- Walk-in consultations with no appointment
- Same-visit blood tests, including dengue and full blood counts
- Climbing injury assessment — fingers, ankles, falls and rock cuts
- Stitches, wound care and minor surgery, including urchin spine removal
- IV drips for dehydration, heat illness and stomach infections
- Rabies vaccination after a monkey bite — Phra Nang is why this is on the list
- Doctor resort visits, on foot across the peninsula
What we cannot do, said plainly
We are a clinic, not a hospital. There is no X-ray here, no operating theatre, no inpatient beds
and no blood bank. Anything that needs imaging, surgery or admission goes to Krabi Town.
Our job in those cases is the part that actually determines the outcome: stabilise you, call ahead
so the receiving hospital is expecting you, and arrange the boat and the ambulance so the two connect
instead of you waiting on a beach for either. That is
evacuation and hospital transfer, and it is a real
service rather than a disclaimer.

Money, before it becomes awkward
You are told what something costs before it is done — beyond the basic consultation, nothing
happens without you knowing the price first. Payment is at the end of the visit, cash or card.
You leave with an itemised receipt and an English medical report, which between them are what
almost every travel insurer asks for. If you are climbing, read your policy before you need it rather
than after: a great many travel policies exclude rock climbing outright, and finding that out in a
